Frequently I get asked about my job and my business and What is it exactly that I do, these answers are my own and pertain to my business. You can meet with me anytime for a FREE consultation.
Question: What do you do? What is a doula?
Answer: I am there to support you AND your partner to have the birth you want, whatever birth you want. Dr’s. are in and out for the most part during your birth and even the nurses (although amazing at what they do) aren’t in the room the entire time with you. Your doula (ME!) is there the ENTIRE time, helping to support and encourage you and your partner, a team, helping you remember different labor and birthing positions, helping you with relaxation techniques, reminding you to eat and drink, encouraging you and being there for you every step of the way. Birth can be unpredictable, birth can be long, when encouraged and supported during the journey you are much more likely to have a much better experience leaving you with a lasting memory and a great start into parenting your growing family.
Question: Do you only attend homebirths?
Answer: NO! I attend births at the hospital, birth center or home, wherever your care provider is, thats where I’ll be.
Question: Do you only attend unmedicated births?
Answer: No, I attend all births. caesareans, epidurals, unmedicated, my goal is to work with you and your partner according to your birth plan.
Question: My partner is worried you will take their place, how can you assure him this wont happen?
Answer: Never, I would never take the intimate place of your partner, your partner knows you intimately and I know birth intimately, and together we work as a team toward the birth your are planning. Its hard to remember every single thing you learned during pregnancy especially under pressure and in the moment and it can be helpful to have someone there helping remind you of all those little things and being able to help with that confidence so that they/we can support mom together.
Question: Investing in a doula is a little out of our budget, Is your price flexible?
Answer: While I do offer a few discounts, my price is not flexible however I do offer a payment plans and am always willing to work with families on that.
Question: Should I take a Childbirth Class or Hire a Doula?
Answer: BOTH! Birth Boot Camp can help prepare you and your partner physically and mentally and a doula can help you and your husband remember everything you learned when it really counts-during your birth! A lot of the things your doula suggests during labor to help with the process will be discussed during class so you won’t be surprised with new information on Delivery Day.
Question: If I didn’t take a childbirth class can you still be my doula?
Answer: Your doula can not give birth for you, so while I prefer that you take SOME form of childbirth education, it’s not a requirement for me.
